The Department of Commerce at Government Degree College Billawar organized a five-day workshop from the 10th of February to the 14th of February 2023. The workshop was focused on two topics, namely "Federal Finance" and "Law of Contract." The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Pinkey, who is the Head of the Department of Commerce at GDC Billawar. The workshop saw active participation from students of B.Com 3rd and 5th semester.
The primary objective of the workshop was to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the federal finance system and the law of contracts. The workshop was designed to help students develop a deep understanding of the nuances of federal finance and contracts. The workshop featured several eminent resource persons, who contributed to the success of the workshop.
The first resource person, Dr. Himani Arora, who is the Head of the Department of Commerce at Government Degree College Kathua, spoke about the federal system of our country. Dr. Arora's talk helped the students understand the functioning of the federal system in India. She explained the roles and responsibilities of the central and state governments in managing the finances of the country. The students also learned about the challenges and opportunities that come with federal finance.
The second resource person, Prof. Binny Kumar, who is the Head of the Department of Commerce at Government College for Women, Udhampur, explained the mergers and acquisitions of companies. Prof. Kumar highlighted the importance of accounting in holding and subsidiary companies. The students learned about the different ways in which companies can merge and how the financial statements of the merged company are prepared.
The third resource person, Prof. Kanchan Mala, provided a detailed explanation of the Indian Contract Act. She explained the different types of contracts and the essential elements that make up a valid contract. The students also learned about the rights and obligations of parties in a contract, the breach of contract, and the remedies available in case of breach of contract.
The fourth and final resource person, Prof. Suresh Sharma, who is a lecturer at Government Degree College Parade, Jammu, spoke about joint-stock companies and banking companies. Prof. Sharma provided a detailed explanation of the structure and functioning of these companies. He explained the role of the board of directors, shareholders, and stakeholders in managing the company's finances. The students also learned about the different types of banking companies and the services they offer.
The workshop was organized under the guidance of Prof. Anita Jamwal, who is the Principal of Government Degree College Billawar. She appreciated the efforts of Dr. Pinkey in organizing the workshop and thanked all the resource persons for their contributions. The workshop was a huge success, and the students gained a deep understanding of federal finance and the law of contracts.
